Employee Spotlight: Tom Cesario

We often joke within our business about the fact that once someone starts working in the payments industry, they never leave.  Even though we all laugh at the idea, it’s very true.  Luckily for us at CDE, we’ve gained plenty of employees over the years that have joined our team and brought with them a wealth of valuable payments knowledge and experience.  One of our more recent additions was Tom Cesario, our Senior Director of POS Solutions. Tom has already contributed a great deal to the CDE mission and vision, so I couldn’t wait to sit down with him to find out a little more about his background.

Tom is originally from the Colorado Springs, Colorado area and graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Business degree with a Marketing focus.  Tom quickly began his career at Bank of Boulder in Colorado, as a customer service manager.  In this early position, Tom gained the foundation of his knowledge of payment terminals and found his enjoyment for working with the equipment.

Shortly after Bank of Boulder was purchased, Tom transitioned to a Product Management role at Nova, which would later become what we now know is Elavon.  At the very beginning of his tenure at Nova/Elavon, Tom was tasked with spearheading a project of ensuring early wireless payment terminals would work at the soon to come 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.  Tom says that this project was very challenging and that although most consumers and terminal operators were reluctant to embrace the technology, he was proud of the fact that he was able to get functional equipment in the field.

Since then, Tom has seen a plethora of technology advancements come and go.  He shared that the quickly evolving nature of the payments industry is just what has kept him going these last 28 years.  He’s enjoyed playing an important part of getting new innovations into the field and supporting them through time, including EMV technology as early as 13 years ago, when it was launched in Europe.

During Tom’s 5 months at CDE, he’s already provided a level of expertise to the business that will continue to drive our company forward as we continue to grow.  Tom says he’s glad to be at CDE because of the culture.  He shared that he has really enjoyed being in a company where everyone operates on a personal level and there are no employees, even up to the CEO, that he cannot talk with.  Tom is just as excited as the rest of us about what’s to come for both CDE and the payments industry, and we’re excited to have him.
