CDE Helped MUST Ministries

CDE has remained a family owned business for over 25 years.  As a fairly small business, with about 65 employees, we maintain a pretty close-knit environment.  We believe in doing things that allow all employees to connect with each other while doing something fun or rewarding.  We have monthly birthday celebrations, fantastic holiday lunches, and even enjoy some games and friendly competitions in the office. All this fun is a great time of course, but our most recent activity together made a much bigger impact.  We got together to help out MUST Ministries and we had a great time doing it.

must3About MUST Ministries

In 1971, Reverend Wayne Williams founded MUST Ministries and its initial programs.  In the beginning, the organization offered a grocery bus, ministries for the elderly, a youth tutoring program, and outreach ministries to “alienated” young people.  Over the years, MUST has continued to grow and expand its offerings.  Rev. Williams continued to fulfill his vision of “connecting people who have a desire to help with those who need help the most.”  Today, MUST works with over 6,000 volunteers who continuously work to help achieve their goals.

One of MUST Ministries’ major efforts is to help combat child hunger in Georgia by providing bag lunches to children in need throughout the summer.  With high poverty rates in many counties, the summer months often mean many families will go without meals.  Because childhood hunger can lead to many other problems for those who are affected, MUST has stepped in to make a difference in the lives of more than 250,000 children.

How We Helped

Earlier this year we reached out to MUST Ministries, right here in Marietta, to find out how we could help their organization.  Several CDE employees were familiar with MUST Ministries and all of the hard work that they do and were excited to find a way to contribute.  With many employees having children of their own and summer just around the corner, the idea ofmust1 helping to provide bag lunches to children just made sense to us.  So we didn’t hesitate and we planned three different dates this summer to spend our day making sandwiches and bagging lunches in shifts.

Our first lunch-making date just passed on June 6th.  The employees at CDE were all enthusiastic about helping out during the work day and some even brought in their children to volunteer!  At the end of the day, we had 2,000 nutritious bag lunches to give to MUST Ministries for kids in need.  Now we have two more dates on our calendars and we’re so excited to continue helping out and bonding in the process.
